Introduction
VMware vRealize™ Operations, part of the VMware vRealize suite, provides a unified management experience for IT services on the VMware vCenter™ server.
The Infinidat InfiniBox Management Pack for VMware vRealize Operations Manager helps VMware administrators gain better insight into the health of the InfiniBox system in a VMware context so that they are able to assess the health of the environment and identify problems and risks. The management pack provides a comprehensive view of the InfiniBox system, including its storage object data, capacity and performance statistics, and alerts in the vRealize monitoring environment.
Purpose of this document
The Infinidat InfiniBox Management Pack for VMware vRealize Operations (vROps) User Guide describes how to install, configure, and use the management pack for InfiniBox systems. The guide outlines the primary features of the management pack, including metrics, dashboards, relationships, reports and alerts, which enable users to have a comprehensive monitoring solution for InfiniBox systems from within vROps.

What is the Infinidat InfiniBox Management Pack?
The InfiniBox Management Pack (MP) is an embedded adapter which extends vROps awareness to provide comprehensive monitoring and visibility into InfiniBox systems. The MP collects data about various InfiniBox resources by connecting to the configured systems, and utilizes vROps analytics and UI engine, along with correlating InfiniBox resources to the corresponding VMware entities. Data can be collected from multiple systems through the same adapter, which enables monitoring the entire InfiniBox environment from a single pane of glass.
The MP does not require any license for Infinidat customers.

DATA COLLECTION
Data is pulled from the InfiniBox systems directly via REST API protocol. The collection interval, which determines how often the MP collects data, is five minutes and cannot be changed.
During each collection cycle, the MP opens a REST API connection to the InfiniBox system and can collect attributes, capacity, and performance metrics.
INFINIBOX RESOURCES DISCOVERY
The MP discovers the following InfiniBox resources:
Icon | Resource |
---|---|
InfiniBox System (Adapter Instance) | |
InfiniBox Node | |
InfiniBox FC Port | |
InfiniBox ETH Port | |
InfiniBox Cluster | |
InfiniBox Host | |
InfiniBox Pool | |
InfiniBox Volume | |
InfiniBox Volume Snapshot | |
InfiniBox Filesystem | |

InfiniBox Resources Architecture
The MP discovers the relationships between the discovered InfiniBox resources in accordance with InfiniBox topology, and hierarchically organizes them under the INFINIDAT World object.
InfiniBox Related Objects
To further customize and allow more sophisticated filtering within vROps and the dashboards widgets, the MP creates the following objects, which aggregate specific VMware entities:
- InfiniBox Related VMs – All VMware virtual machines which are related to each InfiniBox system.
- InfiniBox Related Datastores – All VMware datastores which are related to each InfiniBox system.
- InfiniBox Related Hostsystems – All VMware physical hosts which are related to each InfiniBox system.
External Relationships
In addition to the InfiniBox resources' internal relationships, the MP also discovers the following external relationships with VMware entities:
- InfiniBox Volume / Volume Snapshot -> VMware Datastore -> VMware Virtual Machine
- InfiniBox Filesystem / Filesystem Snapshot -> VMware Datastore -> VMware Virtual Machine
- InfiniBox ETH Port / FC Port -> VMware Hostsystem

To initialize the dashboard, select an object from the Volumes/FS Selector.
InfiniBox Performance
The InfiniBox Performance dashboard presents a wide range of performance metrics for the InfiniBox resources and VMware workloads in a single pane.
Inventory Trees
The Inventory Trees (Traversal Spec) feature allows users to easily navigate between the InfiniBox and VMware resources in the environment. These trees are resource-to-resource hierarchical lists which enable quick drill-downs from the InfiniBox system level down to the virtual infrastructure, and reverse. The MP includes 5 Inventory trees. Each presents the environment from a different point of view.
To view the Inventory Trees, navigate to the Environment Overview tab and expand the INFINIDAT InfiniBox group.
Inventory Tree examples:
Click on any desired object in the inventory tree to view further details.
Views
This chapter provides an overview of the management pack views. It also provides the steps to list the views. A report is a scheduled snapshot of views. You can create it to represent resources and metrics.
A view presents collected information for a resource in a certain way depending on the view type. Each type of view helps you to interpret metrics and properties of various monitored resources, such as alerts and symptoms, from a different perspective.
To list the views:
- Navigate to the Dashboards tab.
- In the left navigation pane, click Views.
- In the right pane, enter <Infini> in the All Filters search box to search for InfiniBox specific views. A list of existing views is displayed.
Reports
Using vROps reports, users can capture desired data at a specific point in time. Reports can be generated on demand or configured to run at scheduled intervals, and can be exported to either .pdf or .csv formats. The management pack contains the following four reports:
- InfiniBox performance
- InfiniBox Health and Time Remaining
- InfiniBox Capacity
- InfiniBox Performance

Alerts
The MP generates alerts which are based on health events it fetches from the InfiniBox systems and on preconfigured symptoms. The severity level of each alert that the MP pulls from the InfiniBox systems is correlated with the event severity and matched to the corresponding impacted InfiniBox resource. The list of alerts is shown below.
