Overview

  • Local users are separate from the InfiniBox management users.
  • You can have up to 100 local users.
  • The local Administrator account is defined by default, and its default password is: P@ssw0rd

For security reasons, it is recommended to change the local Administrator password.

  • Local groups can contain both local users and domain users and groups.
  • Local groups can be used to control access to files and user privileges.

Adding and managing local SMB users

InfiniBox includes two predefined local users that cannot be deleted:

  • Administrator
  • Guest

To add additional local users:

  1. In the InfiniBox Management Console, click the Settings icon on the left toolbar, and select the SMB tab.

  2. In the Local Users area, click the Create button.
The Create SMB User window opens.
  3. Enter a name for the new user.
The name can contain up to 20 characters that include Latin letters, numbers, spaces, and ^&'$!-#%.~_
It cannot end with a period or contain leading or trailing spaces.
  4. Create and confirm a user password that conforms to Windows password requirements. Refer to the Passwords of local SMB users section below.
  5. (Optional) Select a primary group for the user from among all the local groups.
If you do not select a group, the user is assigned to the predefined group Users.
  6. (Optional) Select one or more additional groups the user will be a member of.
  7. (Optional) Select one or more Windows user privilege levels. For the list of supported levels, refer to Windows user privilege levels.
If you do not select a privilege level, the user is not assigned any of these privileges.
  8. (Optional) Disable the user if you do not want the user to be enabled yet.
  9. Click Create to create the user.

Right-click a user's row to modify it, enable or disable it, or delete it.

Disabling an SMB user revokes its access privileges for as long as it remains disabled, but does not disconnect existing SMB sessions.
Deleting an SMB user removes its access privileges permanently, but does not disconnect existing SMB sessions.
