Privilege levels control the type of file share access granted to an authenticated user. The level assigned to a user or the user's group override the permissions that are set on objects. A user or member of a group that is assigned privileges can perform the tasks that its privilege levels allow.

You can assign one or more of the following privilege levels to your local SMB users and groups:

  • SEChangeNotifyPrivilege
  • SETakeOwnershipPrivilege
  • SEBackupPrivilege
  • SERestorePrivilege

For information on these levels, refer to https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/previous-versions/windows/it-pro/windows-server-2012-r2-and-2012/dn221963(v=ws.11).

Members of a group inherit all the privileges of its group. If no privilege levels were assigned to a user and its group, the user has none of these privileges.
