Introduction
Similarly to any computing system, the InfiniBox system has to operate within a specific range of temperature as described on the data sheet. Exceeding this range of temperature may lead to uncontrolled failure of system hardware components.
Operational range
The operational temperature range according to the InfiniBox specifications:
- Minimum temperature: 10°C (50°F)
- Maximum temperature: 30°C (85°F)
This range is common to all InfiniBox models.
Temperature sensors
InfiniBox measures the temperature in various parts of the rack, including temperature sensors on the front side (inlet) and back side (outlet) of the nodes and enclosures, then, InfiniBox calculates a weighted temperature.
Temperature thresholds
The weighted temperature of the InfiniBox system is delimited into 4 system statuses.
System statuses
System status | Temperature range |
---|---|
OK | < 30°C |
Warning | 30°C - 34°C |
Error | 35°C - 38°C |
Critical | > 39°C |
Events
System operates in normal temperature
When the system operates in a normal temperature, no event is generated.
System temperatures moves from Normal to Warning
The following event is generated:
- Event severity - Warning
- Event code - CUSTOM_WARNING_EVENT
- Event description - System Ambient temperature level is WARNING, front temperature is 24.27, back temperature is 38.05
- Note that neither of the reported temperatures is within the Warning range. It is the weighted temperature that determines the event severity
System temperatures moves from Warning to Error
The following event is generated:
- Event severity - Error
- Event code - CUSTOM_ERROR_EVENT
- Event description - System Ambient temperature level is ERROR, front temperature is 34.32, back temperature is 43.70
System temperatures moves from Error to Critical
The following event is generated:
- Event severity - Critical
- Event code - CUSTOM_CRITICAL_EVENT
- Event description - System Ambient temperature level is CRITICAL, front temperature is 36.55, back temperature is 43.57
Event notification - call for customer action
You can create notification rules that will alert you on temperature-related event. Read more on event notifications: Overview of event notification
Required customer action in case of passing the thresholds
As exceeding the normal range of temperature may lead to uncontrolled failure of system hardware components, in the case of severe air conditioning malfunction that cannot be remedied in a timely fashion, you may want to consider taking either of the following actions:
- Warning level - investigate whether there is some AC-related issue or air circulation problem and monitor the DC temperature
- Error level - evaluate the rate of the temperature increase and assess whether this situation is under control
- Critical level - power-off the InfiniBox system until the temperature issues are adequately addressed
