About
In order to create Active-Active volumes and provision them to the host, follow the steps below based on the desired host access type.
- Host PowerTools will be used to create a new volume and the mapping to the host.
- The InfiniBox management console is used to set the Active-Active replication on the volume.
Note
Prior to provisioning Active-Active volumes, ensure that the host is ready by running host readiness check. For instructions see: Host readiness
Host Access
Hosts can access Active-Active volumes in one of two ways:
- Uniform access - access both peers. (both systems)
- Non-unifrom - access only one of the peer. (one of the systems only)
Provisioning Active-Active volumes with Uniform Host Access
- Connect the host to both systems that will contain the Active-Active volume peers.
- If the volume is not already provisioned, provision a volume on one of the systems.
- For instructions see: Provisioning storage to the host
- Upon success, the volume is created and mapped to host.
- Login to the system on which the volume was created.
- Locate the desired volume.
- Create Active-Active replication on the volume with the other system.
- Login to the other system.
- Map the Active-Active volume peer on the other system to the host.
- For instruction see section "Mapping a volume" on: Provisioning storage to the host
- It is recommended to map both peers with the same LUN ID.
- Once the Active-Active replication is set, the peers can be mapped to additional hosts as required.
Provisioning Active-Active volumes with Non-uniform Host Access
- Connect the host to one of the systems that will contain the Active-Active volume peer.
- If the volume is not already provisioned, provision a volume on the system.
- Follow the instructions on: Provisioning storage to the host
- Upon success, the volume is created and mapped to host.
- Login to the system on which the volume was created:
- Locate the desired volume.
- Create Active-Active replication on that volume with the other system.
- Once the Active-Active replication is set, each peer can be mapped to additional hosts as required.
