About

In order to create Active-Active volumes and provision them to the host, follow the steps below based on the desired host access type.

  • Host PowerTools will be used to create a new volume and the mapping to the host.
  • The InfiniBox management console is used to set the Active-Active replication on the volume.

Note

Prior to provisioning Active-Active volumes, ensure that the host is ready by running host readiness check. For instructions see: Hosts readiness

Host Access

Hosts can access Active-Active volumes in one of two ways:

  • Uniform access - access both peers. (both systems)
  • Non-unifrom - access only one of the peer. (one of the systems only)

Provisioning Active-Active volumes with Uniform Host Access

  1. Connect the host to both systems that will contain the Active-Active volume peers.
  2. If the volume is not already provisioned, provision a volume on one of the systems.
  3. Login to the system on which the volume was created.
    1. Locate the desired volume.
    2. Create Active-Active replication on the volume with the other system.
  4. Login to the other system.
  5. Map the Active-Active volume peer on the other system to the host.
  6. Once the Active-Active replication is set, the peers can be mapped to additional hosts as required.

Provisioning Active-Active volumes with Non-uniform Host Access

  1. Connect the host to one of the systems that will contain the Active-Active volume peer.
  2. If the volume is not already provisioned, provision a volume on the system.
  3. Login to the system on which the volume was created:
    1. Locate the desired volume.
    2. Create Active-Active replication on that volume with the other system.
  4. Once the Active-Active replication is set, each peer can be mapped to additional hosts as required.
